Green Schools 2021/2022

February 4th, 2022 - Update

Picture
This week some of our classes have taken part in the Goal Changemakers workshops.
They learned about the 17 Sustainable Global Development Goals which the UN are aiming to achieve by 2030.

Our school are working towards our Marine Environment flag which is Goal 14 - Life Below Water. The big message was that no matter how small our actions are to help the environment, they all count. Just like the hummingbird in the story. Here are some drawings from Ms Woods’ class.

Battery Collection

The pupils have also been busy in the last week or so collecting batteries for recycling. The competition between classes is intense - teachers are eyeing up the clocks and remote controls of the teachers in the class next door in a bid to get to the top of the leaderboard. Find out exactly why by clicking on the PDF file below.

St. Colmcille’s are aiming to achieve our next Green Schools Flag. This flag is all about our oceans, seas and rivers and the amazing plants and animals who live in them. We will also be learning about how pollution is affecting our marine environment and what we can do to help reduce the harm being done.
The Sustainable Global Goal we are focusing on for our flag is number 14-

Every class in our school has a 2 members of ‘The Green Team’ and they encourage their class to recycle and reduce the amount of plastic they use.
Look out for more information and photos of what is happening in the school-you might spot your work!
