The Norse Gods
The Website Club have decided to take inspiration from Ian Barber and his visit to the 5th Classers by writing this section on Norse Gods! We hope you learn something new about these powerful gods!
Odin was commonly known as the "King of the Gods" and was the father of all other Gods and the first God to exist. He was a warrior God, part of the "Aesir" who are also warrior gods, as well as poetry and wisdom and carried a magical spear that was called "Gungnir" into battle. He also owned two wolves called 'Geri' and 'Freki' and had two ravens called 'Huginn' (Thought) and 'Muninn' (Memory), who flew across the different worlds gathering information and news for Odin. He has 4 sons, called 'Thor', who is also God of Thunder, 'Balder', 'Hodr' and 'Vali'. He rode a magical horse called 'Sleipnir' which he rode into battle, who also has eight legs and flies. The name of the fourth day of the week, Wednesday, comes from 'Woden's-Day', which comes from Odin's Old Engish Name. He was married to Frigg, the guardian of marriage and ruled over Valhalla, the heaven for warriors who dies nobly and with sword.
Thor is probably the most famous god, known for his indestructible hammer Mjölnir, made by the dwarven brothers Sindri and Brokkr. Mjölnir is depicted as one of the most fearsome weapons of Norse mythology.
