A new traffic management system and car parking area has been installed for St. Colmcille’s Senior and Junior Schools. Landscaping, signage, road markings and the final layer of tarmac will be completed soon. This traffic management system has been so designed that pupils and all others approaching and leaving the schools can do so in a safe manner.

PEDESTRIANS

1.  Pupils are not permitted to walk through the area where cars are parked.

Pupils must use the footpaths at all times.

2.   (A) Pupils approaching the Schools from the direction of the Church must turn right just beyond the Iona Centre onto the footpath which will take them in the direction of the Schools. They must use the pedestrian crossing to cross to the Schools.

      (B) Pupils approaching via Idrone Estate must turn left onto the footpath in front of the Senior School.

(C)  All pupils must use the network of footpaths and pedestrian crossings.

MOTORISTS

3.  Motorists are asked to note the following:

All motorists must follow the one-way system on school days from 8 a.m.– 9:15 a.m. and 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. and at weekend Mass times.

A set-down/pick-up only facility is available in front of the Junior School and Senior School.  Motorists may use this facility only for the purpose of dropping off or picking up pupils.   Motorists must not leave their vehicles unattended along this section.

Those who wish to park and leave their vehicles must drive on into the school playground beside the Community Centre and park their vehicles there.

The new car park area that is bound by Idrone Avenue, the Senior School, the Junior School and the Iona Centre is reserved exclusively for school personnel and other approved personnel from 8 a.m. until 3 p. m. on school days.

Motorists are requested to show patience and consideration for others, particularly in the coming weeks until signage and road markings are installed and until people have become accustomed to the new system.

Again we wish to stress that this new traffic system has been so designed for the safety of our children. It may not result in any time saving for motorists.

In the coming weeks work will be continuing with the new layer of tarmac, signage, road markings and landscaping. We wish to thank you for your co-operation and regret any inconvenience caused in this final phase of the new system.

Pupils and parents are encouraged to walk to school if at all possible.
