St.
Colmcille's is a Catholic senior primary school situated in the south city
suburb of Knocklyon, Dublin 16 (Ireland). Children between the ages of 8
to 12 years attend 3rd, 4th, 5th
and 6th class which is the final year at primary level. Our sister school on the
same campus enrolls children from 4 years of age to 8 years.
On the map, we can be found close to exit 12 on the M50 ring road. Altogether, there is a staff of 36 teachers who are assigned to duties as follows:
History The first roll book had 47 pupils and by official opening day this had risen to 54. The population increase in Knocklyon was of such a nature that a second primary school was required. In 1982 a second school was built. The original school became the Junior School and the new building housed the Senior School. Nearly 200 pupils now graduate each year from St. Colmcille's School compared with 5 in 1978. St. Colmcille's S.N.S. and J.N.S. now have a teaching staff of over 70 teachers and a total pupil population of over 1500 pupils. |

Notes to School If you wish to send a note (e.g. pupil being late) to the teacher, please write the note in the Comments Section in the journal. Notes of a private nature should be in a sealed envelope. Parent-Teacher Communication Formal Parent Teacher meetings are held in November. Parents are very welcome in our school and teachers will always make themselves available to meet you. However, we do ask you to make an appointment through Betty, our School Secretary, when you wish to see any member of staff. An appointment procedure ensures we will be able to give you our full attention. Appointments If
there is any issue of concern, School Newsletter A school newsletter is issued on a monthly basis and is given directly to the pupils. Please make sure that you get to see the newsletter as it contains important information on the school calendar and it details all activities taking place in the school. The school newsletter is usually issued on the last week of each calendar month. The newsletter is the main source of information for parents. Please ensure that your child delivers the newsletter to you. School Web Site The school web site www.stcolmcilles.org is another important source of information for parents. The web site also features the school calendar, the up to date school newsletter and other items of pertinent information. In the event of possible emergency closures e.g. due to inclement weather, we attempt to post information on the web site. The website is updated on a weekly basis and is a source of school news and information for parents and children alike. The Return of Money When returning money for any school activity, parents are requested to send in the money in an envelope with your child's name, teacher's name, room number and the activity for which payment is being made clearly stated on it. Standard envelopes are given to the pupils for the return of money to the school. Contact Numbers Please notify your child's teacher of any changes in contact numbers, addresses etc. so that our database can be kept up to date. Homework Journal The Homework Journal is used to record homework and to act as a means of communication between home and school. All notes in relation to absences from school, dental appointments, late comings, etc., should be recorded in the journal. Teachers will communicate messages through the journal as the occasion demands. Parents should check the Journal each day. Gaeilge: Cuirfear failte rnhór roirnh an Ghaeilge i Scoil Cholmcille agus beidh me breá sásta gach uile ghnó a dhéanamh i nGaeilge le tuismitheoirí na scoile. |

Pupils receive homework Monday to Thursday (inclusive). There is no homework on Fridays or at the weekend. The following is a rough guideline on the amount of time pupils should be spending on homework:
Within any class, there can be a wide variation in the amount of time pupils take to complete homework assignments. However the rough guideline above gives an indication as to the recommended duration. If your child fails to complete the homework assignments within the recommended time span, parents are advised to stop the child. If the problem continues on a regular basis, parents are requested to contact the class teacher. Homework should be completed in an atmosphere free from distraction and pupils are encouraged to work independently on their homework as far as possible. |

stage with the operation of the traffic system. Motorists are reminded
that: Please consult
the traffic link on the main page for further information Platform Crossing South Dublin County Council has installed a Platform Crossing on Idrone Avenue. This crossing should provide a safer route for pupils when crossing to the Green for P.E. and other activities.
